There's been a long lull in the blogging process of late. Lots of dull uninteresting 'things' going on and not much time for writing. After several remarks about it being absent we decided it was time to return.
July, the last time when I put fingers to the keyboard, gave way to a pretty dark damp August. Thankfully it wasn't cold as well. There's not much I remember about August, except for the rain, so not much to write about.... but the chimney got swept and the boiler got serviced! So we were ready for winter.
August eventually gave way to September, a much sunnier month. The Lido closed with the usual Sunday afternoon swim followed by the 'end of Lido picnic'. A lovely lazy last swim in the afternoon sun, with the Cathedral bells chiming and the water a reasonable 21 degrees. Once showered and dried we ate by the pool side before eventually saying goodbye to the pool until May next year.
September brought other changes. Caitlyn-Rae turned four and started school, and her Dad, Michael, move out of the family home to a bedsit on his own and began a teacher training course while continuing with his O.U. maths degree.
Young Nathan learnt to walk . His climbing skills were already well developed but once he found his feet they rapidly escalated and he took after his grandfather (Sean) in becoming a champion climber.
Himself's work place were being irritatingly indecisive. Was the workforce going to be made redundant or not? Once the decision was made to make everyone redundant, no one could get any correct redundancy figures. For such a big firm it seemed it was beyond their capabilities to be able to produce any information that was correct. The Managing Director had to be contacted by the inimitable Glenda and the catalogue of errors placed in front of him before any progress was made. Eventually at the very last minute they got they're act together and made things right. So a new faze in our life has begun. 'Himself' is now actually officially retired.
All during September DJ has been back and forth. Sometimes well and sometimes definitely unwell. His illness is so distressing to us and we are often at our wits end trying to help. I think we may have to eventually have to accept that our efforts to help are to no avail and for our own sakes let things take their natural course with whatever the consequences will be.
On a brighter and happier side Nancylee and John arrived from Canada for a flying visit and we had a hectic week before they travelled via Eurostar to Paris for the French, American Literary Festival. Nancy was to deliver a speech of welcome to the invited Canadian Writers and participate in four debated.
In the week before Paris we dined out allot in ancient country 'Gastro' Pubs. Spent a sunny day by the sea at Wells dipping our toes in the murky but unexpectedly warm waters of the North Sea. Wandered around the market, cattle market and flea market in Melton Mowbray, a new experience for them and browsed the shops in the our illustrious City!
More meals out, once they returned on the Euro Star, this one at the Italian restaurant in Castor with Chris. September passed into October and teaching commitments necessitated their returned to Vancouver.
Young Chris, my baby Grandson turned 18 last week and has just graduated from pedal powered wheels to motorised wheels, albeit two wheels unfortunately not four. He now is the proud owner of a smart red moped.
